ARMED Forces Day falls on Saturday, June 26 as fixed by the government.
What right has Salisbury City Council to alter, for the second year running, the day to Sunday?
Those of us who are interested in attending, having served in the Forces in the Second World War, are now quite frequently unable to drive. As there are no local buses on Sunday, we are, therefore, unable to support this day.
Family is not always near and have other engagements on a Sunday, as have friends. Last year, the excuse given was that the lady mayor had other engagements on the Saturday.
So what?
The day is not for the convenience of the lady mayor but to support the forces. It is of no interest if the mayor cannot attend. I think veterans are more important on an occasion like this.

MIGHT I suggest the increased profits from Sunday parking charges on Armed Forces Day be donated to buy an efficient PA system, so everyone who attends future drumhead or remembrance services can follow the proceedings.
