IN support of Mr Robert Birchley’s letter regarding the forthcoming Tesco store in Amesbury (Postbag, June 3), I wish to add my indicative comments as a resident of the road adjacent to the site.
I have voiced my justifiable concerns with the site manager on more than one occasion since the work began.
The constant use of heavy machinery on a 12-hourly daily basis is affecting continual vibration and noise to the houses close by, thus causing untold damage to our properties over a period of time – surely?
To add, the copious amounts of dust and debris passed via airborne transmission from the site onto my property, indeed, the whole road – garden furniture, windows etc – is irritating to say the least.
Those working on the site will be protected from the dust with personal protective equipment – what of the residents close by ingesting the colossal amount of heavy dust?
After raising the latter issue, two men promptly arrived from the site to answer my concerns – at least that is what I thought. One was holding a bucket of cold water and sponge.
To say this was laughable is an understatement.
I will be taking this further, not only to Tesco head office.
Surely we, as local residents, matter?
Mr Birchley is correct – Tesco is a company that does not seem to care about anyone but itself.
