HAS the new Wiltshire council set out to collect as much revenue as possible from parking fines now you have to appeal to Chippenham?
On Sunday, October 20, in my commercial vehicle I was parked in a loading bay in Endless Street at 8.14am. I was delivering an item to the Market Place. I returned at 8.23am to find a ticket, which was issued at 8.21am.
To find no traffic ambassadors or vehicles in the street was amazing.
What is the point at this time on a Sunday morning in having wardens if it’s not to collect revenue when no obstruction occurred? Yes, the fair was coming to town and I was delivering. But I did not park causing an obstruction but on a loading bay and was gone for nine minutes.
Yes, I did appeal, which was of course turned down. Why? Because you have five minutes’ observation period, which means unless the loading bay is outside where you wish to deliver to, you have no chance.
I have a loading bay opposite my shop in Amesbury and, many times, you see the wardens start writing the tickets as soon as they get there. So businesses, residents and the poor tourists who think Sunday morning before 9am you are safe - think again.
I know it states from 8am till 6pm there are parking restrictions. But the councillors tell us we have friendly “ambassadors.” I think not.
Of course, silly me, they have to be paid and where does that come from? I expect we will be told by councillors it’s all out of our hands now it’s dealt with in Chippenham.
