THANK you, Wiltshire and Amesbury councils.
Having lived in Church Street for nearing 20 years and suffered vehicles speeding past our house regularly, at last we have had notice that a long-awaited traffic calming and pavement widening scheme is going ahead this month.
While it will cause a measure of disruption for a few weeks, the end result will significantly reduce the chances of a serious traffic accident in the street.
Over the years the street has suffered from hot-hatch racing, inconsiderate parking, and drivers from west Amesbury and the Woodford Valley on a mission to buy that missing ingredient, or Sunday paper from Amesbury, moving down Church Street so fast that they have been seen taking off on the bridge over the Avon.
So thank you to Amesbury and Wiltshire councils for delivering on this promise.
ADAM WOODS, Amesbury
