SALISBURY City picked up six awards at last night's Journal Sports Awards presentation ceremony held at Salisbury Guildhall.
As expected, the club's first team were named Team of the year in the newspaper's annual poll, with Nick Holmes receiving the Manager/Coach of the year accolade, which he previously held in 2002 and 2003.
The Footballer of the year category saw five Salisbury players nominated - Matt Tubbs seeing off Aaron Cook, Kevin Sawyer, Tommy Widdrington and Wayne Turk for the award.
The last Whites player to win the award was Scott Bartlett in 2003. During his previous spell at the club, Paul Sales also won it in 1999 and 2000.
Influential player-coach Tommy Widdrington received a special award - Salisbury Journal sports personality of the year, recognising the impact he has had on the Partridge Way outfit since his arrival from Port Vale a year ago.
Young team of the year was Salisbury City Ladies, who recently wrapped up the Hampshire Division Two title winning all 14 of their fixtures. Their manager Nev Beal was also among the nominees for the Manager/Coach of the year award.
The efforts of the club's groundstaff were also honoured - Brian Carter winning the Groundsman of the year award in recognition of his services to the club before his retirement at the end of last season.
The only category the club did not win for which it was nominated, was the Best local sports venue award - Salisbury Racecourse retaining the trophy for the fourth year running.
Photos from the event will appear in next week's Journal (March 9).
