RINGWOOD Town upset the form book in the Forest derby at the Canotec Stadium on Boxing Day, beating Verwood Town 1-0.
Paul Burnett forced a good save from Verwood goalkeeper Dan Fawcett with a 20-yard strike after ten minutes.
Danny Taylor headed Burnett’s cross over, and then he headed a Nick Howes centre straight at the keeper.
Former Ringwood striker Dan Baguley missed the best chance of the half, when Luke Homer’s cross-shot trickled across the face of goal.
Goalkeeper Stuart Pearce allowed the ball to run under his body but Baguley couldn’t react quickly enough to finish the loose ball.
The deadlock was broken just after the break, when Mark Burrett swung a free kick into the box and Mark Jamison sliced into his own net.
Russell Dyer beat Pearce but not the woodwork in the 70th minute as Verwood pushed in vain for an equaliser, in front of a Ringwood season-high attendance of 88.
Ringwood are away to Tadley Calleva on Saturday, while Verwood entertain Whitchurch United in a battle of second against third.
Ringwood’s reserves host Petersfield Town in Wessex Combination One, and Verwood’s second string play Hamworthy Recreation at Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground.
