WILTON Town moved up to third in the Plaister Autos Wiltshire League Division Two with a 3-0 home win over bottom club Ramsbury.
The visitors could have been two goals ahead at the break, but Chris Smith made a fine save from point-blank range and then a Ramsbury striker fired wide when it looked easier to score.
These escapes spurred Town into life and they took the lead when top scorer Simon Nelmes finished well.
In the second half, the hard-working Ollie Smith was unlucky not to find the target.
The second goal came when Ian Pearce delivered a free kick which a Ramsbury defender headed into his own net.
Then when the Ramsbury goalkeeper could only tip a long-range Dean Hancock free kick onto the bar, Nelmes followed up to head his second.
Wilton were due to entertain KMLC on Saturday, but it has been postponed because of a frozen pitch.
In Division One, Chalke Valley shared a 2-2 draw at Minety after their scheduled opponents AFC Abbey Rodbourne withdrew from the league.
Valley went ahead after just four minutes. Bobby Bronsdon won the ball in midfield, played a slick one-two with Tozzie Judd and coolly lifted over the goalkeeper.
Nathan Rekowski picked his spot from the edge of the box to level in the 33rd minute, and two minutes later Chris Brookes picked out Mike Lawson who struck an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to turn the game on its head.
Persistent second-half pressure from Valley paid off in the 82nd minute, as Geoff Bonner’s corner was headed down and in by Kyle Tryhorn.
“We certainly didn’t deserve to lose today, and I felt we were unlucky not to have won,” said manager Steve Chalk.
“A draw was probably a fair result.
“You can see why Minety have won the league for the last two seasons, and they are undoubtedly the best attacking side in the division.
“That’s four points we have taken off them and I believe that if you finish ahead of them, you win the league.”
Chalke Valley are away to Pewsey Vale reserves on Saturday.
