SALISBURY City travel to Stevenage Borough on Saturday hoping to make it five straight wins.
The Whites’ most recent victory was by a single goal at home to York City, who had gone ten games unbeaten before the contest.
“I think we can admit we had an off day on the ball,” conceded manager Tommy Widdrington.
“But we showed different character in terms of steel and strength to stand up to whatever was thrown at us, and I was delighted we came away with three points.”
Widdrington said it had been part of the gameplan to get former City defender Djoumin Sangare exposed, and he obliged by giving away the penalty which Matt Tubbs converted.
“Jimmy has got lots of great assets but one of the traits he showed us when he was here for 12 months is that he can’t help but dip his toe in to make a tackle,” said Widdrington.
Salisbury are without Ryan Tafazolli, who was sent off five minutes from the end of the York game and serves a one-match ban.
There are also fitness doubts over Darrell Clarke, Rob Sinclair and Jamie Turley. Bradley Gray is a couple of weeks away from returning to action.
Stevenage have also not lost in ten, and they feature Charlie Griffin, City’s top scorer last season with 21 league goals. The well-travelled targetman scored a hat-trick on Saturday in Stevenage’s 4-0 home win over Hayes & Yeading United.
“We all know about Charlie Griffin,” said Widdrington.
“We have to stop the supply to him and we have to mark him well in the box, because the lad got 20-odd goals for us last season in a team that struggled a lot of the time.
“We won’t be taking Stevenage lightly. Their manager Graham Westley is very, very organised and they’re bang in form themselves.
“It’s another game where one of the runs is going to come to an end.”
*Grant Porter has left the club.
The goalkeeper made just two first team appearances – at Histon this season, and in a Wiltshire Premier Shield tie against Swindon Supermarine last term.
*Salisbury and Swindon Town have set the dates for their Wiltshire Premier Shield semi-final.
The Ray Mac will host the first leg on Tuesday, November 17 (7.45pm), and the return leg at The County Ground will be on Tuesday, January 26 (7pm).
