Horndean 1 Ringwood Town 2
Sydenhams Wessex League – Division One
Ringwood team: Page, Russon, Vigar (c), Burge, Old, Leadbetter, Howes (Drew, 25; Morrell, 35; Wateridge, 55), Funnell, S. Yeats, Thompson, Fleet.
Scorers: Thompson, Fleet.
Att: 22.
RINGWOOD Town made it five league games unbeaten with a win at Horndean that came at a cost.
All the goals came in the second half, as Pete Thompson and Carl Fleet put Ringwood two up before Horndean pulled one back from a free kick when Jon Page was adjudged to have handled outside the box.
But when Nick Howes went off injured, his replacement Ross Drew suffered the same fate, as did his replacement Dan Morrell in an unlikely spate of bad luck.
Gary Funnell and Nick Russon also picked up stomach and calf injuries respectively.
“Horndean’s pitch is on a slope, so it was in the second half that we were able to kick downhill and get the goals we needed,” said manager Wayne Lockey.
“We had four one-on-ones, and we should have won by eight or nine again.
“We are doing OK but haven’t won as many games as we would like.”
*Lee Bellows scored a hat-trick in the reserves’ 7-2 home win over Whitchurch in the Combination Cup first round on Saturday.
The others came from Ryan Bladen, Phil Midson, Mark Burrett and Matt Greaves.
