JASON Lovell’s first goal for Verwood Town was enough for all three points at home to Tadley Calleva on Saturday.
The visitors hit the bar either side of half time, and it was from the second one that Verwood broke to score. Lovell spread the ball wide to Russell Dyer and met his return ball with a downward header.
Tadley struck the bar again with a volley, and at the other end Dan Baguley’s effort hit the keeper and Lovell had a shot cleared off the line.
Baguley’s lob was clawed away and Dyer’s low shot was saved as Verwood pushed for a second.
“It was a scrappy game and we didn’t play particularly well, although we were better in the second half,” said manager Adie Arnold.
“It was important to bounce back from the FA Vase defeat and I would have taken three points and a clean sheet before the game.”
*John Homer scored for the reserves in their 3-1 defeat at Hamworthy Recreation in the M.A. Hart Pickford Cup first round.
They go to Dorset Knob in the Hayward Bournemouth League Premier Division on Saturday.
