Trowbridge Town 1 Amesbury Town 0
Wiltshire Senior Cup – 1st Round
Amesbury team: Allatt; Horner (McPhie, 56), Wade, Finnigan (c), L. Bartlett; M. Western, Richards, T. Western (Sole, 56), C. Wheeler; Charman (N. Jones, 75), D. Western.
AMESBURY Town crashed out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup at the first hurdle, losing by a solitary goal at Trowbridge Town.
Tarick Yachou tested Tommy Allatt with a low shot and Dave Wade’s attempted clearance rebounded off Paul Gittins to give the Hellenic League Division One West side a fortuitous 11th-minute lead.
Daryl Charman shot wide and Danny Finnigan’s header hit a post, then Charman spurned two more chances just before the break.
Allatt did well to deny Ali Jafari and Tom Bonsor, and then most spectacularly he pushed Jafari’s curling shot onto the woodwork.
Scott Askew blazed over from close range for Trowbridge, before Neil Sole and Wade both headed over in the closing stages.
“We were rubbish but we still played well enough to beat them,” said manager Nick Horner.
“Their goal was about five yards offside and I wasn’t impressed with the officials.
“In my first spell at Amesbury I probably would have got myself sent off for complaining about them.”
