AFC Abbey Rodbourne 2 Chalke Valley 4
Plaister Autos Wiltshire League – Division One
Chalke Valley team: Street, Donohue (Nash, 60), Boxall, Betteridge, Tryhorn, Smith, Bronsdon, Dawes, Judd, Burley (Hollywood, 68), Edwards (Pospischil, 68).
Scorers: Dawes (6, 80), Judd (16), Bronsdon (39).
CHALKE Valley did enough to stay ahead of the pack in Wiltshire Division One with a 4-2 win at AFC Abbey Rodbourne.
Seb Dawes drove at the Rodbourne defence in the sixth minute, played a 1-2 with Tozzie Judd and slotted the opener.
It was 2-0 after 16 minutes when Dawes’ shot was saved and Judd finished from the loose ball.
Rodbourne pulled one back in the 27th minute, Wayne Petrie seeming to control with his hand before netting.
Charlie Street pulled off some good saves in the Chalke Valley goal, then Bobby Bronsdon headed in Luke Donohue’s cross for 3-1 on 39 minutes.
Nathan Sheppard scored for Rodbourne within five minutes of the re-start, and Alexander saved well from Aaron Burley, Bronsdon and Judd before his resistance was broken with ten minutes to go.
Judd slipped it to Dawes who finished cleverly for his second of the afternoon.
Man of the match Street denied Hartshorn in a one-on-one late on.
“When you’re not on top of your game, grabbing the three points is the most important thing,” said manager Steve Chalk.
“I thought new signing Kyle Tryhorn slotted in well at centre back alongside Dan Smith and I’m sure once they’ve played together for a few weeks they will be a formidable partnership.
“And when we signed Charlie Street I said he was worth ten points a season, and at times today he played them on his own.”
Chalke Valley are at home to Intel on Saturday.
*In Division Two, Wilton Town made it three league wins in a row as they beat Marlborough Town reserves at home by the odd goal in five.
Goalkeeper Baz Devlin conceded a penalty to give the visitors the lead, but Wilton were ahead by half time.
First Lewis Marchment finished neatly, then Neil Underwood hit a stunning volley from 30 yards.
Marlborough equalised following a defensive error in the second half, but Ian Pearce slotted a deserved winner.
Wilton go to unbeaten leaders Moredon Cheney on Saturday.
