SOUTHAMPTON defender Ryan Tafazolli has joined Salisbury City for a month and could make his debut at Wrexham on Saturday.
The 18-year-old has arrived on a work experience basis, to cover for the loss of Luke Prosser who was recalled by Port Vale.
Tommy Widdrington takes Salisbury to the Racecourse Ground on the crest of a wave, after back-to-back victories in very different styles.
On Saturday the Whites tore into Barrow from the off at the Ray Mac and were 2-0 up by half-time, ending up 3-0 winners.
Then on Tuesday they went to Ebbsfleet United and executed an unfamiliar game plan, dropping Matt Tubbs and Robbie Sinclair down to the bench to go 4-5-1.
As the game wore on, the attacking pair came on and were involved as City won the points with goals in the 89th minute and injury time.
First Sinclair crossed for Chris Flood to net, then Tubbs was the supplier for Sinclair to make it two before Liam Daish’s side scored a consolation.
“We can’t just expect to turn up and play our football every time,” said Widdrington.
“Sometimes we have to be a little bit more resolute and functional. On Saturday we were excellent footballing wise in the first half and resolute in the second. On Tuesday we did it the other way around.
“With Tubbs and Sinclair coming on, we had more penetration and speed, which was something we planned.
“It’s easy to say that after the event, but it was obviously part of what our game plan was, albeit we didn’t expect to have to wait that long to score the first goal.”
Despite their ten-point deduction, Salisbury are now three points above the relegation zone and would overtake Saturday’s opponents with a win. They drew this fixture 1-1 in one of their most impressive results of last season.
“Wrexham have had a slow start by their expectations,” said Widdrington.
“When league clubs, in terms of infrastructure and size, come down, they expect to come straight back.
“But when you are used to playing football league, with all due respect, it’s a very different psychological test to come to certain places in this league.”
