FOOTBALL fans who think draws are boring should think again as the Whites left it to the dying moments before conceding a last-gasp equaliser.

Salisbury FC drove to the Surrey Hills last weekend to take on Dorking Wanderers, but drew for the second week in a row.

Some might say it should have been a loss given that the Whites were 2-0 down until the 86th minute of regulation time.

The win was only a fleeting dream, however, as Salisbury allowed Wanderers to regain the initiative and net in the tenth minute of extra-time.

Asked to sum-up their Surrey Hills encounter, Salisbury's Brian Dutton quipped: "Where do I start?

"The game was tight, first half, not a lot in it. We gifted them a goal, really."

Salisbury's manager asserted Dorking were gifted their goals, with their own cheap mistakes culprit for the three goal mountain they had to climb.

The fact they were able to fire back in the way they did, despite also being handed a red card, was testament to the Whites' spirit, according to Brian.

"These boys, they're made of absolutely the right stuff aren't they. When you talk about spirit, they just embody it.

"Dorking didn't know much about Salisbury, before the game [but] they won't be forgetting them in a hurry," the former Whites player asserted.

Dorking Wanderers' manager Marc White spoke after his side's near-defeat to the league newcomer, saying, "I appreciate the Salisbury fans throwing a few flares on to help us get an equaliser!"

Marc thought the quality of the match was poor, with both sides putting chance after chance wide of their respective nets.

Whereas Brian said his team cost themselves the match with cheap gifts, Marc asserted his own substitutions lost the win for Wanderers.

"We were too deep, that was the issue there and then Joel was giving the ball away, so, listen, I'll have to take the plaudits, I really do.

"We were gonna win that game today without being impressive," Marc said.

Although disappointing the match leaves Salisbury in a healthy position in the Vanarama National League South, at 12th in the table.

The Whites are now on 16 points, only three points behind Dorking Wanderers, who are on 19 and under ten from Farnborough who remain at the top of the league.

With a goal difference of minus one, defensive questions remain and will have to be answered if Brian Dutton's side hope to sustain success.

Undefeated in the past four encounters Salisbury FC will next be in action on Tuesday night, as they take on Weston-Super-Mare at home at the Ray Mac.
