It was a mixed bag of results this weekend.
The Women’s 1’s had a challenging start to the league campaign with a game against Basingstoke 1’s an opposition who came down from the National league conference last season.
Travelling with a depleted squad, it was always going to be a tough match. Salisbury found themselves 1-0 down in less than five minutes after being slow to switch on and react to the pace and skill of a very clinical opposition.
Struggling to keep hold of the ball and find an outlet, three further goals followed, despite some fantastic defending from Aoife Lawrence and some fine saves from Louise Davidson, Salisbury found themselves 4-0 down at half time.
With a change of formation and determined battling attitude, Salisbury fought valiantly to get back into the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, and Salisbury were beaten 5-0 by a much stronger opposition.
Plenty of lessons learned and some positives to take forward into next week’s home game against Amersham and Chalfont.
Men’s 1st had the perfect start to the season against a team which placed fifth last season.
Salisbury dominated an entertaining and physical game with a number of cards given to each side.
Goals from Mac Stevenson (2), Jon Powell, Simon Hare and Kynon Griffith-McCann and stout defending and some great saves and stops at short corners from Luke McCormack and Hamish Cameron saw the game end as a 5-3 win to Salisbury.
A battling display which will hopefully be a feature of the games to come.
In other games the Men’s 3’s won 4-1 and the Men’s 4s bounced back from last weeks lost with a 3-0 win against New Forest.
The Women’s 3’s drew 2-2 against Southampton 3’s and the Women’s 2’s 4’s and 5’s lost 4-0, 3-2 and 1-0 respectively.
The Striders went lost 7-0 at Southampton.
On Sunday there was lots of junior hockey with Salisbury hosting a U8 and U10 minis festival and the U12 Boys going to Bournemouth to play and win two matches 4-0 and 4-2.
The U12 Girls went to Southampton for multiple matches and had an even mix of wins and losses.
