FOUR of Salisbury’s play-off heroes have signed new contracts with the club.
Josh Sommerton, Tom Leggett, Ryan Penny and Jaden Perez are all staying for another season.
Leggett was last year’s player’s player of the season after playing in a number of positions across the backline and in midfield, and Sommerton is approaching 200 appearances for the Whites.
Perez joined Salisbury from Farnborough in late January this year and became a regular in the team’s midfield alongside Ryan Penny. Penny is extending his second spell at the club after several impressive displays in midfield, becoming a firm favourite with supporters.
The club has been putting together its squad for next season after securing promotion with a penalty shootout win in the Southern League Premier Division play-off final.
Brian Dutton said: “Josh Sommerton had a stop-start season for the last campaign, but we all witnessed how vital he was to the team when he was playing and also not playing, so I’m delighted to resign him, and with him being one of your own, it makes it even more special."
On Leggett, he added: “Leggy won the players player at the awards night, and he fully deserved it. He played in numerous positions last season, and he excelled in all of them, which is a testament to what a well-rounded footballer he is. We’re all delighted to secure his services for next season.”
About Perez and Penny he said: “[He] is a player who has a lot of ability and was just beginning to show that before his unfortunate injury in the semi-final. I’m expecting a big season from him next year if he can stay injury-free.
"Ryan Penny had a fantastic campaign last season. Incredibly he was playing step five football the season before. We snapped him up and he became one of our most influential players last season at step three. I have no doubt he can make the jump again and have another great campaign this time at step two.”
They join Owen Dore, Ryan Gosney, Josh Hedges and Aaron McCreadie, who already have contracts for the coming season.
