SALISBURY will host Gosport Borough in a play-off semi-final tonight.
It comes after Salisbury finished third in the Southern League Premier South, following a 2-0 win over Hanwell Town on Saturday afternoon.
Their final points tally was 79 points from 42 games, winning 23, drawing 10, and losing just seven.
Salisbury says it is the highest ever finish and highest points tally for the club since it reformed in 2015.
It represents a “fantastic upturn in form” for the Whites, manager Brian Dutton told the Journal, with the club finishing 15th in the past two seasons.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better season” he said.
Finishing third secured Salisbury a home-draw in the play-off, which played over one leg.
They will take on Gosport at home on Wednesday at 7.45pm at the Ray Mac, after the Journal has gone to print.
The Whites have played Borough three times already this season - beating them 2-0 at the Ray Mac in October and drawing 1-1 away from home in February.
The two sides also met in the FA Trophy in October, with Gosport winning on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Dutton said: “Having home advantage in this game is really important. We need the fans down at the ground early making as much noise as possible to get the players pumped up and full of adrenaline.”
He told the club’s in house media channel he is “delighted” and hopes they can “bring the Ray Mac to life on Wednesday night”.
Gosport come into the match themselves in good form, having beaten runaway champions Chesham United 4-2 in their final league game of the season.
Salisbury got off to a flying start on Saturday afternoon against Hanwell, with the club’s top goal scorer this season Noah Coppin putting the Whites ahead after just three minutes, following good work from Charlie Gunson with a fantastic pass from the wide area. Coppin has 24 goals so far this season.
Josh Hedges doubled the home side’s lead just after the half hour mark after a decent move down the left and good combinations from Hedges and Sommerton.
