Boys and girls from across the southwest will be participating in the Defender Premiership Rugby Cup competition this Sunday, April 28.
The event is taking place at Salisbury Rugby Club on Castle Road from 10am, brought to the grassroots level by Bath Rugby and Premiership Rugby.
The ultimate reward for the players aged 11 to 12 is a thrilling opportunity to attend the Gallagher Premiership final at Twickenham Stadium. This tournament welcomes 28 teams hailing from Dorset, Wiltshire, and Somerset.
It’s an opportunity to celebrate and revel in the grassroots activity that makes the sport shine in the first place. Each team will play the same number of ten-a-side matches, lasting for ten minutes in a waterfall tournament.
Members of Bath Rugby will be present to provide beneficial tips to the young players. The rugby stars will also be handing out competition medals and trophies to the winners. Parents and fans are encouraged to show up in support of the players.
They can also capture a snapshot with the iconic Gallagher Premiership trophy, which will be on display. The winning U11 team will be selected randomly and each member will receive a medal. Meanwhile, the victorious U12 team will be named Defender Premiership Rugby Cup champions.
Both winning teams will earn tickets to the Gallagher Premiership final at Twickenham. The trophy presentation is expected to commence from 2pm.
Due to limited parking on-site, a park and ride up the road will be available. Alternatively, lift share is an available option. For additional details, refer to Bath Rugby’s website.
Abigail Dicks, grassroots operations coordinator at Bath Rugby, said: "The Defender Premiership Rugby Cup is a great way to inspire the next generation of grassroots players and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their skills and talent.
"Whilst we love to encourage the kids’ competitive spirit, the Defender Premiership Rugby Cup isn’t just about winning, it’s about camaraderie, sportsmanship and fostering the love for the game.
"Whether they’re charging down the pitch or cheering from the sidelines, we’re looking to encourage all players to foster and embody the true spirit of rugby."
