Teenage South Wilts all-rounder Archie Fairfax-Ross has made an encouraging start to his winter season in Australia, shining with bat and ball for Mudgeeraba & Nerang District on Queensland's Gold Coast.
The 19-year old left-arm spinner and middle-order batter has already helped his adopted club reach the Gold Coast Cricket T20 Grand Final and make a winning start in the regional Premier League, writes Mike Vimpany.
After taking two wickets and scoring a quick-fire 40 runs off 33 balls in the second round win over Palm Beach, Fairfax-Ross really starred in the crushing semi-final win over Southport, returning a personal T20 best five wickets for five runs.
Southport were skittled for 72 and beaten in six overs.
It didn't go so well in Grand Final, where despite his 2-18, cup winners Helensvale posted and successfully defended 152-7 to pull off a 17-run victory.
Fairfax-Ross continued his good form into the first grade Premier competition scoring 54 as his side made 216-5 before restricting Alberton to 141-9, Archie taking 2-21 off his seven overs.
The Bemerton teen was nominated for the best Gold Coast 'team of the week' for his performance.
Mudgeeraba and Nerang, who won the 11-club Gold Coast Premier League last winter, boast one of the top grounds in Queensland, their side-by-side twin-oval facilities has floodlit ten-lane net practice facilities, alongside a thriving clubhouse and bar.
