SALISBURY have announced midfielder Josh Wakefield has mutually cancelled his contract at the club.
The former AFC Bournemouth youngster has parted ways with Brian Dutton’s squad.
His final appearance for the Whites came on December 10, when, having been named in the starting XI, he was shown a red card in a 2-1 defeat at Beaconsfield Town.
Wakefield joined Salisbury under former boss Steve Claridge in May 2021, following a successful spell at Weymouth.
The former Cherries, Yeovil and Dorchester man played 148 games in his Terras career, scoring 12 goals before heading to Salisbury.
He helped Claridge’s side finish 15th in Southern Premier last season.
A post on the club website read: “Josh Wakefield has had his contract with the club cancelled which was mutually agreed to.
“Salisbury FC would like to thank Josh for his time at the club and wish him luck in the future.”
Meanwhile, Salisbury’s home clash with Hayes & Yeading United on Saturday was postponed due to a frozen pitch at the Ray Mac.
With temperatures plummeting below zero degrees Celsius, the Whites admitted their entire playing surface was left “frozen solid”.
A statement from the club issued on Friday said: “It will come as no surprise that we announce that the game against Hayes & Yeading, which was due to be played on Saturday, December 17, has been postponed due to the pitch being frozen.
“During a pitch inspection today (Friday) at 4pm, it was clear to the match official that the entire pitch was frozen solid and would have no chance to thaw in time.
“This game will now be played on Tuesday, January 24, and will be a 7.45pm kick-off.
“We’re disappointed that we won’t see you all on Saturday and indeed that would have been the last home match of 2022.”
Salisbury are set to be back in action when they make the trip to Winchester City on Boxing Day (3pm).
They then host Poole Town at the Ray Mac on Monday, January 2 (3pm).
