IN THE English Schools’ Combined Events Championship in Bedford, Jacob Earle was one of only three athletes from Wiltshire to have qualified across the six age-group events that took place over the weekend.
Despite a season severely interrupted by injury, he competed against the best 45 under-15 multi-eventers in the country, which included nine individual event English Schools finalists.
Carrying a heavily strapped foot he opened with a PB of 13:73 in the 80m hurdles.
A solid shot put followed, then another PB in the long jump of four metres 75 centimetres.
The competition finished with the high jump and 800m. At the end of the final event Jacob finished a highly creditable 29th in the country.
Chris Simm, Stuart Robertson, Richard Williams raced in first ever Cheddar Gorge 10K.
The route was undulating over the first three kilometres, and then gradually wound its way down through spectacular scenery to the Gorge for a downhill hurtle to the finish line.
After the season’s opener at Overton in the Hampshire Road Race League, CoSARC’s men’s B team sit at the top of ‘B’ Division One, an early but promising start.
At Salisbury parkrun, hard fought PBs went to Paul Downie (18:50), Freddie Bosworth (19:26 smashed his PB by 19 seconds) and George Sutton (20:07).
At Churchill Gardens Junior parkrun, James Gabriel made the impressive achievement of bagging himself a consecutive double of a PB of 7:05 and also first finisher.
