DESPITE going 3-1 up in their game at home to table-toppers Wellington, Shrewton United were well pleased with a share of the spoils after being reduced to ten men early in the second half.

It was a much-changed side that lined up at the Recreation Ground to greet the high-fliers.

With top scorer Dean Foot ruled out through suspension, there was a first start for impressive teenager Randy Hickox, as well as a welcome return to the side for club captain Anton Brownless.

Shrews made a dream start, Sean Collins chipping the Wellington 'keeper to put them into the lead.

The hosts defended their lead well until, ten minutes into the second half, Brownless was on the receiving end of a harsh penalty decision and, in the ensuing melée, was given his marching orders.

Manager Stuart Withers said: "You couldn't help but think here we go again'.

"But literally from the kick off, Terry Roberts put Jesse Walters through to score, then their 'keeper misjudged a long through ball and Craig Lewis nipped in to put us 3-1 up."

However, Wellington showed why they are currently leading Division One, piling on the pressure in the latter stages and pulling one goal back before equalising in the sixth minute of added time.

Withers said: "I don't know where on earth the referee got six minutes from but, overall, I can't say I'm disappointed because it was still a good point for us.

"I'd certainly have taken it at the beginning of the day."

On Saturday Shrews host Cadbury Heath, kicking off at 3pm, and then visit Bemerton Heath Harlequins for a Hospital Cup tie on Tuesday evening.
