YOUNG sportsmen and women from the worlds of cricket, table tennis, judo, football and gymnastics were among the recipients of this year's Mike Slade Sports Scholarships.

Now in its 12th year, the fund was set up in memory of the Salisbury councillor to assist promising youngsters with coaching expenses.

South Wilts Cricket Club's Sam Pittman was awarded £250 towards the cost of individual wicket-keeping sessions at Hampshire's Rosebowl, while a group of Harnham Gym Club gymnasts will receive £200 towards specialist coaching.

Highly regarded Salisbury City FC footballers Macauley N'jie and Greg Potts have been given £250 to attend coaching sessions at the Jamie Shore Soccer School International.

Chalke Valley Table Tennis Club members Kane Taylor, Robert Waters and Mark and Thomas Rendall received £300 for coaching from International level four coach, Rowden Fullen.

A Mike Slade sports awards grant helped fund the visit of former world judo champion Neil Adams to Moonrakers Judo Club last week.
