A LATE Wayne Turk goal away at relegation-threatened Northwich Victoria earned Salisbury City three more points to lift them to ninth in the Blue Square Premier table.

Turk made no mistake on 83 minutes, coolly following up an effort by Rob Sinclair, making his Whites debut since his loan-signing from Luton Town, which Vics goalkeeper Lewis Edge couldn't hold.

It was the one real moment of joy for City in an otherwise dire contest - indeed the opening 45 minutes failed to provide a single opening at either end.

Chances also proved few and far between after the break, but Whites manager Nick Holmes was happy enough to secure a victory that takes their unbeaten run to nine games.

"For a long time it looked like 0-0 was going to be the result," explained Holmes.

"They're not a badly organised side. They lacked a little upfront and they don't create much, but they stopped us from playing."

Holmes praised substitutes Liam Feeney and Robbie Matthews, whose introduction helped turn one point into three.

"It helps when you've got players like Liam and Robbie on the bench. They've got pace and when they come on to take on the tired legs they can make a difference."

Holmes was again delighted his charges kept a clean sheet - City's sixth in eight games.

"Ryan Clarke wasn't tested throughout the 90 minuutes. I don't think he had a shot to save. Apart from a couple of crosses he's had nothing to do. Clean sheets are what we've been brought up on and another one is pleasing."
