THE ladies’ team of the newly-formed Harnham Cricket Club performed creditably in their first softball match against Redlynch & Hale’s women’s team.

The friendly fixture at Redlynch was played under Barrington rules, which means that when a wicket is taken the batter is not out but the team loses five runs.

Each team starts with 200 runs to ensure they do not go into negative runs. Batters bat in pairs for four overs and then retire to let next pair in. Each side faces 20 overs.

The Lady Crocs are one of the teams of Harnham Cricket Club, which now has sponsorship from the Duke of York pub and the Brown Street venue, Aquatec and more funds from Wiltshire Council’s Salisbury Area Board and Wiltshire Cricket.

Redlynch & Hale batted first and notched up a total of 329 the Lady Crocs made a valiant effort to chase them down but fell short on 287.

Harnham Cricket Club has two junior teams called the Crocodiles and the mixed over-50s team called the Crocs, as well as the Lady Crocs.
