SALISBURY'S Dan Riddle was among the England volleyball cadets who returned home triumphant after winning the Sparkasse Rondo Cup in Austria over the weekend, beating sides from France, Germany and Italy.

The Cadets ran out 2-0 winners in the final against German outfit Wurtemburg.

They played five games in two gruelling days, with 16-year-old Dan being named man of the match in their semi-final tie with Italian side Modena.

The Bishop Wordsworth's school pupil was impressed by the standard of the international players they met.

He told Journal Sport: "It was an absolutely amazing experience. I don't think there's anything like it in Britain."

Dan, who plays his club volleyball for Salisbury and Melksham, was one of just two squad members called up from the Wessex area.

Dan now has the under 19 trials to look forward to in the summer.
