FORMER student and British Athletics champion, Sophie Merritt, returned to Godolphin to give an athletics masterclass.
She brought with her the silver and bronze Commonwealth medals that she won in Samoa shortly after leaving Godolphin.
Talking through the three disciplines that are her speciality, Sophie demonstrated various aspects of discus, shot-put and javelin, giving the girls advice on technique and approach.
After this, she sat with them and answered their questions which ranged from the food she ate before competing to injuries she had sustained during training.
Speaking afterwards, Sophie said: “It was a real trip down memory lane to come back to Godolphin and meet some current students and my old teachers.
“I’ll always be grateful for the support and encouragement I received, particularly from PE Teacher Lucy Edwards who helped me to aim high and follow my dreams.”
