SALISBURY City have been contacted by the Football Association over concerns of suspicious betting patterns in Blue Square Bet South.

The league’s 22 clubs, including the Whites, are currently being investigated by the FA, who are working closely with Gambling Commission’s Sports Betting Intelligence Unit, over players and affiliated club members breaching betting rules and regulations.

According to a spokesman at Salisbury, players have been reminded of the rules concerning betting and integrity.

A statement issued by the FA says: “Anyone with any information regarding possible breaches of these rules has been advised to come forward to the FA or Gambling Commission.”

A spokesman for the league, which along with the Blue Square Bet North comprise the sixth tier of English football, believes it’s “inappropriate to make any comment at this stage of the investigation”.

Meanwhile, supporters are anxiously waiting to hear whether they will be entitled to compensation for Saturday’s league clash with Dover Athletic being abandoned at half-time.

Due to the rain and hailstones which hammered onto the pitch inside the Ray Mac, the referee postponed the game during the break.

As a result, outraged fans may not receive a discounted rate when the match is replayed on Tuesday, April 9 (7.45pm).

A statement issued by the Old Sarum club said: “The Conference rules are that if a match is abandoned before half-time, vouchers should be issued to the spectators’ present, giving free admission to the rearranged match. Cash refunds are not given.

“If the match is abandoned either during or after half-time, as was the case on Saturday, the home club is not obliged to issue such a voucher.

We are not yet in a position to make any announcement regarding admission, but will do so as soon as possible.”
