Salisbury came from behind to beat relegated Trinity MidWhitgiftians 3-1 at Bemerton in the South League Hampshire/Surrey Regional Division 2.

The Surrey side shook Tom Morton’s side out of their lethargy by leading.

But two goals in quick succession, by Ollie Budniak at the back post, then Chris Warde following a penalty corner, swung the game around.

It was a frantic and scrappy affair, finally settled by Rory McTaggart’s drag flick third late on.

But the victory will lift Salisbury spirits for Saturday’s visit to Trojans, – title favourites after winning 2-1 at Winchester.

Men's fourth team:

A LONG trip to the Isle of Wight saw the home side crowned champions of League 9 with a 5-1 win over Salisbury’s fourths.

Despite arriving early, Salisbury’s reshaped team did not perform well in the first-half. A string of inconsistent umpiring decisions turned the game into a bickering contest by both sides - not the superb and enjoyable game experienced at Salisbury before Christmas. Due to the Isle of Wight thirds dominating possession, they took a 4-0 lead into the interval.

As the second half got underway, Salisbury scored first following quick passes from the back to Alastair Barrett who transferred the ball to David Hillier. He lost and then regained the ball, spun and shot passed the advancing keeper, to register the visitors’ only goal of the game. Dan Hawksworth had another opportunity well saved by the Isle of Wight keeper, before they scored their fifth from a well worked short-corner routine.

Women's hockey

SALISBURY’S West Women's League Premier Division 2A title campaign is headed towards a winner-take-all final showdown with Cheltenham on Saturday week.

The pair head into this weekend's penultimate round of fixtures locked together on the 38-point mark - with only goal difference separating them.

Salisbury travel to Hereford on Saturday with a plus seven goal difference over Cheltenham, who go to Circencester.

Then, on Saturday, March 23, the top two clash at Cheltenham's Balcarras Sports Centre pitch at Charlton Kings to decide the title.

The two teams both won 4-1 last weekend, Salisbury over-coming the jitters to beat Cirencester at Bemerton.

"We were so desperate to win and gain promotion that we are feeling the pressure and making simple mistakes," confessed Salisbury captain Kate Behan.

Jenna Tait broke the deadlock by converting a penalty corner with a rasping shot.

Behan dominated the midfield and Salisbury suddenly sparked, scoring three goals in ten minutes.

Sarah Dunn deflected in a penalty corner at the far post, Claire Hobbs finished off a fine passing move, and Vicky Brewis touched Sonia Ribeiro's shot over the line to make it 4-0.

Salisbury carelessly gave the ball away several times late on and paid the penalty as Cirencester clawed a consolation goal back.
