AS the season starts to tick away, hat-trick hero Dan Fitchett is urging his Salisbury City teammates to keep “believing” in the Conference South title.

The final eight games will decide the Whites’ automatic promotion fate, starting against fellow contenders Dover Athletic on Saturday, writes Joel Holt.

He said: “It’s going to be tough and we need Welling United to keep dropping points, but we must focus on our own business and win every game. Dover is massive and we are gearing up for that.

“We’ve got to keep believing in the title.”

Fitchett’s superb hat-trick on Saturday, his first in the league since he signed for the Whites in 2011, has put his tally up to 14 goals for the season.

His recent goal flurry, scoring six in his last four matches, has sent him on a mission to catch striking partner Jamie White, who is currently sitting on 20 goals.

“I can’t stop scoring at the moment,” he added. “My confidence is sky high now. I had a bit of a blip a few weeks ago, but lately I’ve just been shooting and they seem to be going in. The most important thing is that the team keeps on winning.

“Catching Jamie has to be my target. He has been great all season but as a partnership we work well and we both need to keep scoring.

“The supporters have been great, and there was a much better atmosphere at Weston-super-Mare. There were also some big performances. “Jamie and I practice a lot in training and that’s all I can keep doing.” Boss Darrell Clarke said: “I’m delighted for Dan, he is on fire at the minute. His work rate and effort for the team worked well on Saturday.”

Rhys Baggridge has joined teammate Matt Clark on a month’s loan at Southern Premier side Frome Town.
