CITY of Salisbury Athletic and Running Club celebrated an extraordinary triple team win and a string of other successes in the 10-mile Hampshire League road race, which started at Salisbury’s Five Rivers Leisure Centre.

A cold north-easterly breeze made the 4C temperature feel sub-zero, and despite a good individual win by Nick Buis of Totton Running Club, with 53min 45sec, the conditions ensured the course record of 49.37 set in 2010 was not tampered with, writes John Ruskin.

Salisbury’s Stuart Holloway led for much of the way but eventually had to concede to Buis, before clocking 54.04. Then came a show of strength in depth by the host club with notable wins in both the men’s A and B team competitions. It was the same story in the women’s event, won by Jessica Barring of Lordshill Road Runners with 62.06.

Second was Salisbury’s Katie West in an excellent personal best of 62.38. With support from Kathy Dudman’s 66.58 and Sarah Kemp’s 68.18, the three clinched the ladies’ team award.

The trio backing Holloway for the men’s A team win were Eliot Haimes in 56.12, Chris Southern 56.20 and Steve Herring 56.32.

Similar close packing among the men’s B team comprising Robert Mann with 57.40, Ben Brewster 58.26, Kevin Tilley 58.36 and Tom Cummings 58.47 assured them of the B trophy.

The good performances have helped City of Salisbury to continue leading the Hampshire league men’s team competition. They are second in the ladies’ competition. In the individual standings, Holloway stays top of the league.
