As a resident of Shrewton, one of the local villages that is constantly subjected to huge volumes of rat running traffic avoiding congestion on the A303, I welcome the decision of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) not to place Stonehenge on the ‘at danger list’.

This decision supports the views of National Highways and the other supporters of the tunnel project that this work will enhance and preserve the WHS.  The tunnel, as part of the larger A303 enhancement project,  will improve journey times and quality for millions of road users whilst enhancing the lives of people living along the route.

The Stonehenge Alliance, who did not accept the decision of the judicial review that the project should go ahead, now do not accept the decision of the WHC.

Stonehenge Alliance had previously cited the risk to WHS listing as a key reason for cancelling the project. I believe that the Stonehenge Alliance wish to keep Wiltshire roads and residents in the Dark Ages in order to preserve their vision of Stonehenge.
