A HALF-TERM weekend that saw Salisbury Hockey Club's sides decimated by absences witnessed them buck their luck to win two out of three matches.
Salisbury Men’s Seconds made the trip to Chichester with a makeshift side and thankfully the traffic was lighter than when it had caused the cancellation of an earlier game.
Chichester started strongly putting a lot of pressure on the Salisbury players. a disguised pass found their centre forward one-on-one with Salisbury’s keeper Pat Knight who slide out to clear the ball.
Salisbury started to gel as a team, linking up passes in midfield they were able to overcome the Chichester press and out their defence under pressure.
Anthony Gallagher came close to breaking the deadlock with a well-timed strike but denied by the keeper’s glove.
The second half started much like the first with Chichester started strongly with several attacks. An outstanding effort from the defensive line kept them from finding the back of the net.
With five minutes left in the game, man of the match Jamie Bundy, broke clear in the opposition D and smashed ball past the keeper.
A frantic last five minutes as Chichester push to equalise but Salisbury held out to win one-nil. The Seconds are currently sixth in the league with two wins and two losses.

The Strollers maintained their winning run with a two-one win over Amersham. With a very different side from last week’s win it was pleasing that they could produce another win.
Carl Hendy gave Strollers the lead in the first half with Trevor Brothers adding a second midway through the second half.
Whilst the visitors did score from a short corner, the final whistle had been blown and Strollers were assured of victory.
