A large crowd gathered at a sun-baked Swindon with its classic Pavilion basking in the Summer sun. Glamorgan won the toss and decided to field first. It soon became apparent that Wiltshire would need to be on their best form to make this a truly competitive challenge. Dylan Church, 56, held firm, but had to watch wickets tumble around him. Ben Draper, 19, was beginning to settle when he became one of BJ Morris’s victims – Morris 10-0-57-4. Wiltshire found themselves in a precarious position until Wadworth Man-of-the-Match Chris Naish,49 (3 x 4 & 3 x 6), and Archie Fairfax-Ross, 38 not out (3 x 4 & 1 x 6), came together and took the score from 123 for 7 to 194 for 8 in an 8th wicket partnership of 71. Ben Higton came in at 10 and continued to move the score along with 22 from just 20 balls as Wiltshire ultimately closed on a respectable 236 with just 2 balls left. Apart from Morris, Gorvin 2 for 40 and Norton 2 for 40 were the most successful bowlers with McIlroy taking 3 catches.
Having performed well with the bat Will Naish ( 2 for 61) was also Wiltshire’s most successful bowler taking both openers. The only other success came from the ever-reliable Joe King (1 for 58) who bowled Bevan for 65. Bevan and Tribe had put on 89 together. In truth Glamorgan always looked in control and 4th wicket pair Tribe, 93 not out and Root 32 not out with an unbroken partnership of 95 saw Glamorgan home with 65 balls to spare.
An excellent attendance on a glorious Summer’s day saw Swindon CC emerge as superb hosts – many thanks to all concerned.
