LOCAL motorcycle racer Stephen Thomas, also known as Tommo21, rides for A Edwards Racing JTL on board a Yamaha.

He returned to action at round two of the British Supersport Cup Championship that took place at a sunny Oulton Park in Cheshire, May 5-6.

Oulton Park's combination of stunning scenery and spectacular racing makes it one of the most picturesque and best-loved circuits for spectators and competitors alike with its challenging undulations.

Saturday's opening Free Practice one session took place in damp conditions and saw Thomas end the session with the third fastest time, 1:51.291s in the tricky conditions.

Free Practice two took place later in the day in improved conditions, Thomas set his fastest lap of the session on his final circulation 1:42.314s.

Sunday's qualifying session determined the grid for the sprint race and took place in hot conditions after making some adjustments to his motorcycle Thomas qualified seventh position with a lap time of 1:41.902s.

Saturday's 12-lap sprint took place in warm conditions Thomas got a great start and was in fifth position by the end of the opening lap.

Throughout the race he was involved in a battle with fellow competitor Ben Tolliday for fourth who he had successfully passed by midrace.

With three laps remaining Thomas had a near-high side at Druids corner, a fast left-hander which leads onto the back straight.

Luckily Thomas was able to control the bike and stayed on. Unfortunately, he lost the positions that he had fought hard for and ended the race in eight.    

Monday's 25-lap feature race took place late afternoon in scorching conditions.

Thomas got a good start in his final race of the weekend and made up several positions by the end of the opening laps.

Throughout the race, Thomas battled once again with Tolliday. Both swapped positions multiple times during the opening laps.

By mid-race, Thomas had held off Tolliday and looked comfortable in 5th. With four laps remaining Thomas had a moment at Shell Oils Hairpin and lost the position to Tolliday.

During the final laps of the race, Thomas was able to set his fastest laps of the weekend whilst chasing down his competitor and eventually finished 6th.

Round three of the Championship takes place at Donington Park in Nottinghamshire, on 18th May and 19th May where Thomas will be looking to continue his run of good form.
