Salisbury Cathedral will host a series of intimate chamber concerts by candlelight.
The concerts will take place in the North Transept throughout 2025.
The first concert, Winter Words by Candlelight, will be held on Friday, January 17.
Highly acclaimed British tenor Ruairi Bowen and prize-winning accompanist William Vann will perform Benjamin Britten’s Winter Words, a song cycle of Thomas Hardy’s poems exploring several themes including memory, nature and human experience.

Following this, Purcell by Candlelight on Friday, February 14, will feature a consort of eight singers, conducted by Edward Rimmer, performing Henry Purcell’s most expressive and powerful religious music, accompanied by a small ensemble of period instruments.
On Friday, March 14, world-renowned pianist David Owen Norris will perform Piano by Candlelight, a programme featuring composers such as Handel, Mendelssohn, Byrd and Norris himself, all with connections to Salisbury.
The final concert, Wind Quartet by Candlelight, will take place on Friday, May 2, with the Mayflower Ensemble celebrating a variety of chamber music genres.
A highlight of this concert will be Holst’s Quintet for wind and piano.
