The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, will make an official visit to the Diocese of Salisbury this summer for the first time since his enthronement in March 2013.
Mr Welby will meet community volunteers, students, and young people across the diocese from June 9-11.
There will be a number of events where the whole of the diocese will be welcome to attend and meet the Archbishop.
A group from Church House has been set up to oversee the organisation of the visit and they are working closely with Lambeth Palace to ensure that the visit runs smoothly.
The itinerary for the Archbishop’s visit includes events across the entire Diocese of Salisbury, which stretches from Calne and Marlborough in the north to Poole, Purbeck and Weymouth in the south.
The draft timetable includes:
-visiting Lyneham Ministry of Defence
-visiting Archbishop Wake Primary School, Blandford Forum
-meeting with the Traveller and Gypsy Community
-a day in Weymouth & Portland
-attending ReSound Youth Event in Poole
-visiting to Erlestoke Prison
-time in the Avon Valley Benefice
The weekend will conclude with a diocesan celebration in the Cathedral Close on Sunday, June 11 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, to which all are welcome. It is also hoped that this will be live streamed for those unable to be physically present.
Alongside the visit of the Archbishop, the diocese is looking forward to welcoming members of the College of Evangelists who will be running training events and workshops across the diocese over the weekend visit.
