FORMER Bishop of Salisbury and the Church of England's lead bishop for the environment, Nicholas Holtam authors The Archbishop of York’s Advent Book 2022.
In his book published on September 8, Nicholas has separated Sleepers Wake into four weeks of daily reflections, which draw on science, politics, theology, poetry, art and Bible passages to explore climate change and the need for urgent action.
At the end of each week, there are focused questions for reflection and action, as well as a list of other books and websites for further reading on this subject at the end of the book.

Nicholas argues that climate change and the environment is a spiritual crisis to which we have not yet fully woken up, whilst drawing on the latest research and statistics as well as over 40 years of ordained ministry.
Holtam’s hope is that Sleepers Wake will inform, challenge and equip each person to do what they can to combat the climate crisis, changing their behaviour and campaigning for others.
He said: "We can run headlong into disaster or we can sleepwalk into it, but we can no longer say that we do not know the impact of the way we are living. It is only in facing the reality that we can find the way forward."
Nicholas Holtam was the Bishop of Salisbury from 2011 to 2021 and the Church of England's lead bishop for the environment, chairing the Environmental Working Group from 2014 to 2021. He is also the author of The Art of Worship: Paintings, Prayers, and Readings for Meditation and A Room with a View.
