AN exercise programme for stroke survivors will be holding a new series of classes in the autumn.
Wiltshire’s exercise after stroke starter programme, which is carried out in partnership with Wiltshire Public Health and delivered by Wiltshire Council and DC Leisure has proven to be extremely successful since its pilot in September 2011.
During the pilot programme, a 38 per cent improvement was achieved from when the sufferers were first assessed to being reassessed 14 weeks later.
The course aims to develop the participant’s cardiovascular, strength and mobility levels, to give significant functional and psychological improvements.
The programme is suitable for any stroke survivor who is able to walk either unaided, or with a stick or frame, and can complete 10 metres.
The programme involves exercises in a seating and standing position, which can be adapted for the individual needs of the participant.
The new programmes start on Monday, September 10 in Salisbury, Chippenham, and Trowbridge.
