THE start of the Christmas season was marked at Salisbury Cathedral over the weekend at the Darkness to Light services.
The services, which took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, began with the cathedral in total darkness and silence as the single Advent candle was lit and by the end the whole interior was bathed in the light of 1,300 flickering candles.
Two processions moved around the cathedral during the services, which were a mixture of music and readings.
