RESEARCH carried out by Salisbury City Centre Management has shown how higher parking charges could drive shoppers away from the city and even from the county.
As the Show Some Sense campaign calls on Wiltshire Council to reduce all-day parking charges and reintroduce one-hour parking, City Centre Management has also released figures showing how Salisbury’s parking compares to other popular shopping destinations nearby.
The research shows Salisbury is more expensive for three, four and five-hour stays than popular shopping towns like Southampton, Winchester, Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Andover.
Bath is the only place considered that works out more expensive than Salisbury.
And for short stays, Salisbury is considerably more expensive than all of the other towns and cities because Wiltshire Council has introduced a minimum two-hour stay.
