SPIRE FM has given its support to the Journal's Show Some Sense campaign to get Wiltshire Council to rethink its parking charges in Salisbury.
Within hours of the Journal hitting the shelves this morning Spire decided the Journal’s aim to get a fair deal for shoppers and visitors to the city was a good one and their support has been welcomed.
Our campaign aims to get the council to bring in one-hour parking charges so people are not forced to pay £2.20 for two hours’ parking when they just want to pop to the shops and to reduce the all-day parking charge to £6.
All day parking has gone from as little as £1.80 in some car parks to a whopping £7.40 while in Trowbridge, where Wiltshire Council has its base, it is just £5.60.
The Journal has called for a maximum £6 charge rather than £5.90 because the odd amounts are making it even harder for people to find enough change, for which reason we are also calling on the council to put in parking machines that will give change.
