CHILDREN at Coombe Bissett Primary School are celebrating their literary talents.
Sixteen children from Elm Class, Years 1 and 2, won Talented Writers Certificates of Merit for acrostic poems they had written.
The acrostic poems – poems where the first letter of each line spells out a word or message – could be about a topic of their choice, and they wrote about topics such as their families and the summer.
The poems will be published in an anthology of young writers’ work called My First Poem and a copy will be kept at the British Library in London as well as being available for sale in bookshops.
Pictured with their certificates are Adam Cowlam, Poppy Sladen, Olivia Boyd, Nicholas Vaughan, Samuel O’Boyle, Alice Sherwood, Maddy Carter, Emily Otton, Freya Boydcamps, James Cook Isobel Penwarden, Megan Shields and Mia Crane.
Saffron Smith, Sophie Bellamy and Hamish Dickson were also awarded merits but were unable to be in the photograph.
