THE gardens at Boveridge Park near Cranborne will be opening for the only time this year on July 24 and 25.
Restoration work on the gardens began in 2003 after the BBC filmed there for its series Hidden Gardens and now, after seven years, the process is almost complete.
Gertrude Jekyll and Thomas Mawson designed the gardens in 1920 and the plan has been to restore them according to their original plans.
Mawson built the terracing and carried out the hard landscaping while Jekyll created the planting plans. Restoration of Jekyll’s herbaceous borders has been completed and the East Pond garden has been planted with roses, peonies and lupins. The phlox garden is in full flower.
The gardens will be open between 10am and 4pm. Tea and cake will be available.
Boveridge Park is currently home to the Philip Green Memorial School, a residential school for children with learning difficulties.
