A CHARITY book fair in Salisbury has raised £1,320 to help disabled people in Tanzania improve their lives.
A group of volunteers holds regular book sales outside the United Reform Church in Fisherton Street and they organise three large-scale book fairs a year, with the Summer Book Fair taking place last week.
The events raise money for Feed The Minds, a UK Christian charity that works with local partners in developing countries to provide education. This year the Salisbury volunteers decided to support a project in Tanzania which helps give disabled people access to education or training, encourages more teachers to train in sign language or Braille teaching methods and promotes positive attitudes towards disability in the community as a whole.
The group is in its 33rd year of charity book sales and raises about £10,000 a year. Organiser David Lilley said this year’s summer event, which ran from Thursday evening to Saturday, went very well despite bad weather on Friday slowing sales.
On Saturday they even had help from Lina Santeusanio, head of fundraising for Feed The Minds, who came from London to see how the event was going and lend a hand.
