PEOPLE are expected to flock to RNAS Yeovilton on Saturday for this year’s International Air Day.

The air base is celebrating its 70th birthday and there will be extensive displays to mark the anniversary.

Historic aircraft, including the Swordfish, Sea Hurricane, and Sea Hawk, will be coming together with other vintage planes and their modern counterparts to highlight the role the base has played – and continues to play – in operations through the decades to the present day.

The air day will feature world class display teams such as the RAF Red Arrows, the Spanish Air Force’s Patrulla Aguila and the Royal Jordanian Falcons.

The crowds can enjoy the massive roar of the mighty Vulcan bomber, with the finale to the event being the Commando Assault Demonstration, which will offer plenty of pyrotechnics.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum will also be open and offering a 25 per cent discount to air day ticket holders, and there will be plenty of entertainment on the ground with sideshows, a funfair, demonstrations and helicopter and simulator rides.
