STAFF and customers at a Salisbury supermarket have dug deep and helped to raise more than £6,000 for a local spinal charity.
Since Sainsbury’s announced the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust (SSIT) as its chosen charity of the year 12 months ago, it has raised £6,600 through a variety of events, including quiz nights, craft stalls, a staff bathing in custard and a sky dive.
The money raised will go towards the charity’s Jubilee Garden appeal, which aims to provide a specially designed rehabilitation garden at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Unit at Salisbury District Hospital.
SSIT trustee Jeremy Major said: “We are enormously grateful to Sainsbury’s for their support this past year. Their enthusiasm and energy to fundraise for SSIT has been really impressive.”
Sainsbury’s store manager Paul Jones said: “It’s been fantastic to see the way everyone’s pulled together since we started raising money for SSIT.
“We’ve all really enjoyed coming up with new and unusual ways to raise funds for this very worthy cause and it’s great to think that we’re making a positive difference to so many people.”
