A LOCAL man has completed a solo cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for three charities.
James Clarke, 35, from Cholderton, arrived at John O’Groats on June 15 after nine days of cycling, covering more than 1,000 miles. He cycled alone and unsupported, carrying all his own kit and staying in youth hostels along the way, to raise money for three charities – Cancer Research UK, Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal and Salisbury Hospice.
He had been planning the ride for six months, but it became even more important to him when his mother died of cancer in March. He is still collecting donations and hopes to raise more than £1,500.
Mr Clarke said: “This was a good challenge using a network of minor roads. It has probably been the best cycling I have done. A big thank you to everyone that has supported these charities.”
