A WOMAN who has lived a life of “gentle existence” celebrated her 101st birthday with friends and family on Wednesday.
Doris Woodford, of Milford House Care Home in Milford, has lived in the New Forest area for the whole of her life.
She was born in Wilton into a family of seven children.
For the majority of her working career, Mrs Woodford was a cook, working in grand houses at Ringwood and Wimborne and continued cooking after retirement, also enjoying tending to her garden.
Her husband, Eddie, wasa railwayman working in the area.
Her only son, Brian, said that she has led a life of ‘‘gentle existence’’ and the secret to her long life is her home cooking.
