A STRATEGY outlining how recreation will be developed in the Forest over the next 20 years has been released by the New Forest National Park Authority.
The authority wants its visitors to tell them how they think the park could be improved. An extensive program of surveys and research will be undertaken to decide what to develop.
A steering group, made up of members from key user groups, landowners and statutory bodies will oversee the strategy, which will then be reviewed in five years.
Paula Freeland, interim director of conservation, recreation and sustainable development at the park, said: “This provides a great opportunity for us to work in partnership with other Forest organisations. Recreation is a really important way for people to enjoy and experience the New Forest National Park – and while they’re getting some exercise, people have the chance to learn more about its unique heritage and enjoy its natural beauty.
“It is vital to ensure the park’s special qualities are conserved and enhanced for future generations. The National Park Authority must ensure the balance of recreational activity with the conservation of this very precious place.”
